Relax and enjoy the café and gift shop.• 40km return jetboat ride along the Whanganui River • Entry to Lauren’s Lavendar farm (coffee & cake available to purchase at additional cost) • Knowledgeable local river-guide • Return shuttles between Taumarunui and the Whanganui River After checking in at our office in the Forgotten World Motel and the completion of required forms, we will gather everyone together for a quick pre-tour briefing before boarding the shuttle bus to take the 5 minute bus ride to Cherry Grove where your Jet Boat awaits.Hear stories of how the first traders used the river as their connection to the coast while you are fitted with your lifejackets. Step aboard the jet baot, get comfortable then its is off down the river to the Lauren's Lavender Farm Landing. Disembark and climb the short staircase up to the Lavender Farm. Relax in the gardens, enjoy a coffee at the cafe or browse the gift shop. Then it's back down the stairs, life jackets on and all aboard for the journey home, hearing tales of the river and spotting wildlife and relics of river use in past days as you go.

Experience the first 16km of the Forgotten World Railway. Enjoy a taste of the Forgotten World journey. Travel through 5 tunnels including the longest tunnel (1.5km) on the line before stopping for a drink and a cookie and returning on the rails back through the 5 tunnels (bonus!) to the start point.This is a 32km round trip, cruising through stunning hill country farms and native bush.Time : Depart our Taumarunui depot at 12.00pm. Layered clothing with a good wind/rain jacket or shell is ideal. The RailCarts have plastic side-curtains that provide reasonable rain protection. We suggest the following should be taken with you on the RailCart: • Sunglasses, Camera, Binoculars • Water and extra snacks if required • Warm thermal/merino clothing, including hat, scarf and gloves • Sturdy footwear (no jandals) with warm socks • Warm windproof jacket with hood even in fine weather • 100% Rainproof coat and over-trousers if rain is predicted

Once there and you have stowed your belongings in your cart, it's time for your driving instructions and then we are underway down the railway line. You will pass through the longest tunnel on the line of 1.5 kms and several hand built brick tunnels. At various point of interest down the line your guide with gather the convoy of RailCarts together and tell the stories of the early settlement of the area and how the railway became their point of connection. Keep an eye out for native bird life and the many animals that can be seen from the railway corridor. Stop for morning tea at the rural community hall of Matiere. A delicious Ploughmans lunch awaits you where the old Tokirima Station used to be. Read the story boards and immerse yourself in the rural seclusion of this area. After lunch it is time to board the shuttle bus again for the short journey down to Ohinepane Landing where your jet boat awaits. Pass through the depleted settlements of Matiere and Ohura before arriving at Tokirima where lunch awaits you. The afternoon takes you through the spectacular Tangarakau Gorge and on to Whangamomona.
