Combining a challenge packed natural horsemanship session, followed by a freestyle ride over the spectacular Rangitikei hill country, which is suitable for all abilities.At River Valley Stables we train our horses using natural horsemanship techniques. Natural Horsemanship is about the partnership between horse and human. Our guides have spent time building this connection with the horses and working with them in a way that makes our horses feel good about their work. Our horses are ridden freestyle, in a halter, so no metal bits in the horse’s mouth. It encourages you to build a connection with your horse. It is this connection between you and your horse that makes River Valley Stables uniqueWe start with building a trusting relationship between you and your horse. It does not matter if you are new to horses or they have been a part of your life forever. We work with you at the level you need to be working at.Next we take you and your horse, who is now your partner, out into the beautiful countryside of River Valley. Here you will have the opportunity to try everything you learn’t beforehand. You will be riding over the hills, taking in the spectacular scenery, and if you are up for it, cantering through the fields.
River Valley Rafting - Grade 5 White Water Rafting on the Rangitikei River
Our grade 5, white water rafting trip is often recognised as one of the best half day trips in the world! With 10 major rapids on this 11 km run, plus numerous smaller rapids, there is plenty to get excited about.If you are looking for an action packed half day trip, then the Grade 5 white water section of the Rangitikei River could be just what you are looking for.Often recognised as one of the top half day Grade 5 White Water Rafting Trips in the world, your trip on the Rangitikei starts off easier, with sections of fun Grade 2 and Grade 3 rapids, great practice for what lies ahead! Over a two to three hour period, and 11 kms of river, you will experience rapids that start at that easy end, and culminate in the gorge, a section of the river where 10 major rapids, from Grade 3+ to Grade 5, line up one after the other to thrill you and excite you. Some of these rapids are short and sharp, while others carry on for several hundred meters. The trip finishes right outside the front door of River Valley Lodge for hot showers. No getting changed on river banks!
The Awesome Scenic Rafting Adventure
With over 30 Grade 2 (easy) rapids, amazing scenery and a riverside lunch, the 13 km section of the Rangitikei River downstream from River Valley Lodge is perfect for all ages. On the way down the river, immense cliffs cradle the river canyon. It is in one of these sections that we stop and have a picnic lunch. From there it is a relaxing float out to the take out, followed by a scenic drive back to River Valley Lodge.For those wanting more of an adventure, we can run this trip with inflatable kayaks. Or, for those who are less active we can take oared rafts.This is a full day trip, departing from River Valley Lodge at 9.30am. There will be gentle grade 1-2 rapids (as well as 2 grade 3 rapids at the start which we usually walk around). The scenery on this section of the river is amazing.
