The Monastery of Santa Catalina de Siena in Arequipa, is considered one of the most important and original architectural works of Peru and Latin America, with more than 400 years of history. It is known as "A city inside the city "because inside there are several streets, cloisters, cells, a square with a pool, laundry, cemetery, etc. In its Pinacoteca you can see an important collection of religious art from the continent, as well as numerous paintings of the so-called Cuzqueña School, the maximum expression of the fusion of two cultures, the Inca and the Spanish. It was opened to the public in the year 1970 and receives daily visitors from all parts of Peru and the world.Visit: Monasterio de Santa Catalina, Santa Catalina 301, Arequipa PeruThe Viceroy Francisco Toledo, during his visit to Arequipa, was informed by the Cabildo, about his desire years ago, to found a monastery of nuns. This motivated him to grant the necessary licenses for the foundation of the "Monastery of Private Nuns of the Order of Santa Catalina de Siena". Years later, Doña María de Guzmán, widow of Diego Hernández de Mendoza, beautiful, rich and young woman who had no children, decided to seclude herself in the monastery under construction, giving her all her possessions. On September 10, 1579, the Report and Capitulation of the Monastery's foundation signed between the City Council, Justice and Regiment and the Bishopric of Cusco was made, and the Town Council handed over the four lots owned by the city for its operation; naming Doña María de Guzmán "first town-dweller and prioress of said Monastery".

Our Rio Chili tour is exciting, safe and only 20 minutes from Arequipa's city center! This trip is recommended for adults and children with or without rafting experience. We run a 6-7km section of Rio Chili with Class II, III and IV rapids. The trip is about 3 hours from door-to-door, with a full hour of fun on the water. This is a full-service experience and by far a customer favorite:  • We pick you up from any hotel in Arequipa's city center 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time and head to our gear house to set you up with your river gear. You'll change into wetsuits and safety gear and we'll head to the river via the beautiful drive through the Chilina Valley to the Virgen de Chapi-Charcani Sanctuary, a small church along side the Chili River where your tour begins. Before entering the water our guides will give a brief lesson on river safety and rescue, as well as explain the role of the rafting guides and the safety kayaker. • The first section of rapids is Class II and useful for practicing rowing technique and river safety.  Next, we will run an exciting Class III section where you are sure to get a little wet! The next section is Class IV, the strongest rapids you'll encounter (if you are not feeling up for the challenge of Class IV rapids, you have the option to get out of the raft and walk a short distance to meet up with the rafts for the final Class III section -- almost everyone is up for the whitewater, but we're more than happy to accommodate those who aren't). After an exhilarating run through the Class IV rapids we will stop where swimming and cliff jumping is an option if you don't feel like you have gotten wet enough already! The final 15 minute stretch before we hop out of the river is Class III with sizeable rapids. • Upon leaving the river, you'll change out of your wetsuits and gear and make a quick stop at our storehouse for a snack. We'll drive you back to the Plaza de Armas to enjoy the rest of your day in the white c

More than a thousand rocks of all sizes and shapes have been crudely, yet strikingly, engraved with a wide variety of distinct representations. The engravings include images of humans, dancers, snakes, llamas, deer, parrots, sun discs and simple geometric motifs. Misti is the most beautiful volcano of the three that surround Arequipa, and it is the emblem of the city. For many arequipeneans reaching the top means offering a small sacrifice to the volcano that protects the city. Although the climb is not difficult, previous acclimation is required as we will surpass the 5800 meters of altitude. At this point the air is so light that even walking takes a lot of effort. This is the reason why we suggest not making this experience if you have not spent at least a night or two in Arequipa. One of the most impressive parts climb to the top, is that from there we have a 360 degree viewpoint. From here you can see the surroundings of the city and the Natural Reserve of Aguada Blanca. Even at times, especially in seasonal changes, you can see the Pacific Ocean in the distance.ItineraryDay 1: Start of hikingStop At: Volcan Misti, Ruta 682, s/n lies between the mountain Chachani and the volcano Pichu-Pichu, Arequipa 054 PeruWe start the hike very early in the morning.Duration: 6 hoursNo meals included on this day.No accommodation included on this day.Day 2: Misti ClimbStop At: Volcan Misti, Ruta 682, s/n lies between the mountain Chachani and the volcano Pichu-Pichu, Arequipa 054 PeruHiking the volcanoDuration: 6 hoursNo meals included on this day.No accommodation included on this day.
